TKT is produced by Cambridge ESOL, a department of the University of Cambridge which has provided examinations in English for speakers of other languages since 1913.
TKT is suitable for primary, secondary or adult teachers of English around the world, whether or not their first language is English.
TKT consists of three modules. For each module, you have to answer 80 questions by choosing a letter for the correct answer. As TKT tests your knowledge of teaching rather than your proficiency in the English language, you don't have to listen, speak or produce extended writing when taking TKT.
|Module 1||Language and background to language learning and teaching||80 minutes||80 questions|
|Module 2||Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching||80 minutes||80 questions|
|Module 3||Managing the teaching and learning process||80 minutes||80 questions|
Each question carries one mark, so the maximum mark for each module is 80. Scores are in four bands:
|Band||A candidate at this level demonstrates|
|1||limited knowledge of TKT content areas|
|2||basic, but systematic knowledge of TKT content areas|
|3||breadth and depth of knowledge of TKT content areas|
|4||extensive knowledge of TKT content areas|
To achieve TKT Band 3 [= "Pass TKT"], you need to score at least 45 marks out of 80.
